Phil S. Jacobs Joins CDC Foundation Board of Directors
May 16, 2001, ATLANTA - Phil S. Jacobs, president of Georgia Operations for BellSouth, has been elected to the board of directors of the CDC Foundation.
Mr. Jacobs began his telephone career in 1973 as a marketing communications consultant with Southern Bell. In 1983, he was named operations manager of strategic planning in the newly formed BellSouth Corporation. He held various positions of increasing responsibility until he was named president of BellSouth Business Systems in 1993. In this position, he was responsible for the $4 billion multi-state large business services marketing unit. In 1996, he became chief operating officer of Optus Communications, a telephone company headquartered in Sydney, Australia, that was partially held by BellSouth. Following the sale of BellSouth’s interest in Optus in 1998, Mr. Jacobs returned to Atlanta, where he was named president of BellSouth’s Georgia Operations.
Mr. Jacobs serves on the boards of numerous regional and local organizations, including the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Corporation for Economic Development, the Medical College of Georgia Foundation, and the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership. He received his bachelor’s degree from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
